Jazz@37North
Jazz@37North is an outreach ministry focused toward our local community as well as one way we support the arts. For eight months of the year we bring in professional jazz artists with the intention of affording our community the opportunity to experience this wonderful genre of music. In the past three years we've had the privilege of hosting both local as well as national jazz artists, including Ron English, Brad McNett, The Metro Jazz Voices, Sheila Landis with Rick Matle, the Macpodz, Teri Miller, David Wells, and Jim Martinez with Laura Didier.
We also incorporate a time of sharing the Good News during the intermission. Our series is promoted by Mark Clark and there is no entrance fee. If you would like to donate to help us continue this series, that is possible, but people are not required to buy tickets. Refreshments will be served after each concert and during this time it's possible to meet the featured artist or group. We certainly hope you'll join us. Everyone is welcome.

Testimonials from artists that have performed at Jazz@37North
"Our band performed at 37 North in November 2011 and had a great audience! They were versatile in accepting both originals and jazz standards. The team putting on the concert were there to meet us as we arrived early. They were very hospitable. The stage and sound acoustics created a professional music hall sound and brought a brilliant ambience to the venue we were playing. We thank the team for having our group and look forward to jammin with Mark (Clark) at 37 North in the future and feel honored to perform with other well known artists. The best of the best wishes for the musicians and coordinators of 37 North."

"My name is David Wells and I'm a full time Jazz Artist that travels throughout the country. I had the opportunity to work with Mark Clark, concert promoter, for his Jazz series. Mark is a first class concert promoter, and I recommend him with any special event that you might have. If your an artist, guarantee that you'll have an awesome experience."

"Jazz@37North (formerly known as Jazz@Trinity) is quickly becoming a centerpiece of performance venues in the Downriver area. Mark Clark's vision along with his love for Instrumental and Vocal Jazz has attracted some of the best local and regional Jazz artists to perform there, and has provided a great place for hearing good Jazz for the culture of Jazz lovers in Southeastern Michigan. Jazz@37North has also provided some valuable outreach programs for students of Jazz, as well as up and coming new stars."
Mark D'Angelo (Director of Instrumental Music at Roosevelt High School) http://music.wyandotte.org
"Jazz@37North has blossomed into a beloved permanent Jazz Series that nurtures and promotes important musical, cultural and spiritual values. Jazz@37North has also become a popular entertainment destination that has brightened Michigan's music scene!"
"The Detroit DownRiver communities served by 37North Church (and the entire Detroit jazz-loving community) have enjoyed outstanding performances from many of southeast Michigan's finest jazz artists including The Metro Voices, Kathy Kosins, Sheila Landis, Paul Keller, Cary Kocher, Cliff Monear, and Russ and Jeannie Miller."
"Jazz@37North's founder and main organizer Mark Clark has captained this series to its current prosperous (and elite) status with his dedication, vision and indefatigable advocacy for Live Jazz Music!"
Paul Keller (Of The Paul Keller Ensamble) www.pkorecords.com
"I've had the pleasure of bringing my group to Jazz@37North twice so far and had the honor of being one of the first artists to be featured in the series. They were even kind enough to host my CD release party the last time I was there. Mark does an incredible job of bringing in a diverse selection of groups from across the jazz spectrum. The series is always sure to have something for everyone. Not to mention they always treat the musicians with respect and hospitality. This is by far one of my favorite concert series to play or attend."

"We truly enjoyed bringing our "Jazz Tribute to Doris Day"concert to Jazz@37North in 2011. Laura Didier and I loved the church venue. We met a wonderful audience afterwards that came from all over. Your marketing worked and obviously has a great following. Keep up the great community work and looking forward to being back there this year ("A Charlie Brown Christmas" concert)".
Jim Martinez www.jimmartinez.com
Wow! Bringing my jazz quartet to perform at Jazz@37North was a fantastic, free-flowing, love-filled experience. I felt such freedom as a performing artist, able to express myself unfettered with my voice. With the supportive acoustics in the church, I could truly interact with my musicians. I felt acceptance, enthusiasm and warmth from the crowd, some of whom had never experienced jazz before. The afterglow with meet-and-greet and treats was fun, too. Having the opportunity to talk with folks after the show and sell some of my CDs completed the evening. Keep on keepin' on!

The Jazz series at 37 North Church stands as a beacon of hope in a virtually jazz-starved downriver community. I've had the pleasure of performing there with THE METRO JAZZ VOICES in February of 2010 and hope to bring the group there again in 2012. The audience was warm and receptive. I admire Mark Clark for not only initiating this program, but also for being diligent in continuing it. I encourage everyone to support this series and others like it.

Book Suggestion:
The best book I've read (Mark Clark) on jazz and spirituality. Robert Gelinas www.jazztheologian.com, is lead pastor (and resident jazz theologian) of Colorado Community Church, a multicultural, interdenominational mission in the Mile High City.
He says "God is The Original Jazz Ensemble." And that "Life in concert with God-ultimately that is what we are practicing for."
